In 1984, President Reagan was in office, the first Macintosh Apple computer was introduced, Ghostbusters was the top-grossing movie at the box office and the first-generation BMW M5 was released. Now, in 2011, President Obama is in office, Apple stores are filled with the latest editions of iPads and iPhones, Pirates of the Caribbean’s fourth installment is the top-grossing movie so far and the plans for the 2012 BMW M5 have been revealed. In the past 27 years since the first M5, presidents, movies, and computers have all evolved to adapt to our changing society, and likewise BMW has added several new features to the upcoming M5 model.

M5 Brings the Power

The BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4.-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that boasts about 522 horsepower and will easily be able to sprint from zero to 62 miles per hour in a mere 4.4 seconds.

Sporty-comfortable interior

The M5’s interior combines luxurious comfort with a sports car style set-up to create the perfect driving atmosphere. The 2012 M5 interior features include a freshly designed leather covered center console, electrically operated steering column adjustment, four-zone automatic climate control and ambient lighting.

With gas prices at record highs across the country, electric cars and hybrids are the “buzz” among many drivers and automakers. BMW has continued its commitment to electric cars with its development of the BMW i sub-brand. Your local San Carlos BMW dealer is excited that BMW also plans to lease a small amount of BMW 1-series ActiveE models this summer and later introduce more electric cars into the U.S. market.

The BMW i models that will be the first released in the United States are the i3 and the i8 models, but BMW has trademarked i1 through i9, so it is expected that there will be plenty of vehicles under the BMW i sub-brand.

The BMW i3

The BMW i3 is an all-electric vehicle that was purposely designed as a “megacity vehicle” with the city driver’s needs in mind. While the electric driving experience might be new for many BMW drivers, your local San Carlos BMW dealer can assure you, many electric vehicles are easy to use and still boast the same power as gas-powered BMW vehicles. The BMW i3 uses energy regeneration technology, so when the driver takes his or her foot off the pedal the decelerative torque regains energy through the regenerative braking process. Also, the BMW i3’s larger interior is perfect for convenient traveling in urban areas. The sustainable and natural interior materials combine luxury and simplicity to provide a comfortable space for the driver and passengers.

The BMW i8

The BMW i8, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, features a more sporty design. The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid car that still offers the sports car performance feel and can be used for longer road trips. Similar to the BMW i3 model, the BMW i8 was designed with LifeDrive architecture. The i8 is also built with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), which BMW describes as “super light, super strong” because it is as strong as steel, but about 50 percent lighter.

The BMW dealership drivers recognize as one of the best dealerships in the area is thrilled that BMW will soon be releasing more hybrid and electric vehicles into the market for U.S. consumers. The BMW i3 and i8 models both boast impressive power, while greatly reducing everyday fuel emissions. And most drivers can agree that an electric or hybrid car is a welcome alternative to the gas-powered vehicles that keep drivers doling out money at the pump.

For San Carols 7 Series drivers, there is very luxurious news. The 2011 BMW Alpina B7 is back and it’s better than ever. The car, which has been MIA since 2009, made its grand return. The car’s design is sleek and unquestionably elegant while still possessing functional purpose. In addition, the engine is big, really big. With the return of the Alpina long overdue, don’t expect these little lookers to stay on the lot long this spring.

Lets get the most important stats out of the way first: the Alpina boasts a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 500 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This translates to a stunning, off the line acceleration of zero to 60 in a rapid 4.5 seconds. The engine is partnered with a six-speed sport automatic transmission with Alpina SWITCH-TRONIC transmission control for your sport and manual driving preferences. The front spoiler increases the car’s downforce by more than 30%, while the back spoiler adds on an additional 15%. In addition, the front spoiler aids in cooling the new transmission and oil coolers. The wheels are eye-catching as well, thanks to a 20-spoke, 21-inch specific Alpina design, and the two polished double-tailpipes between the rear wheels scream speed. Finally, the Alpina B7 comes in all the standard 7 Series colors, or my personal preference, the cool Alpina metallic blue.

Inside, the Alpina continues to impress. The dashboard, door panels, center console, and most importantly, the seats, are covered with “Lavalina” hand-stitched leather with custom Alpina badges. The steering wheel contains Switchtronic technology, and is also heated, for just a little something extra. The rear seats are heated as well, while the front passengers receive the ultimate pampering experience with both heating and cooling features.

San Carlos 7 Series dealer Peter Pan BMW hopes to have the Alpina B7 on site sometime this spring. The car will be sold for a pricey $122,875 – $126,775, but when all amenities are considered, the cost starts to seem like quite a deal. Visit your San Carlos BMW dealer to reserve a test drive today!
