BMW’s ActiveHybrid X6 Appears in Black Eyed Peas Video
When you think of BMW, you don’t necessarily think of 30-foot dancing robots in a futuristic junkyard trailer park that looks like something out of “District 9,” but they’ve got more in common than you’d think. For that matter, you wouldn’t necessarily draw a lot of connections between 30-foot dancing robots and hip-hop group the Black Eyed Peas either, but again—one need only dig a little bit to connect the whole gang together. It’s out there, and San Carlos X6 fans are going to be excited about how.
In the new video by Black Eyed Peas, “Imma Be Rocking That Body,” BMW gets itself two really solid cameos—one for the ultra-cool S1000RR motorcycle, and another for the ActiveHybrid X6, which is currently the most powerful hybrid vehicle on the market. As for the dancing robots and desert junk heaps, they serve as the background of a futuristic setting for the video (which is really more like a short film than a conventional music vid). In all, BMW is made to look like the “it” automaker for the year 3000, and with some extreme close-ups on the Beamer shield, it’s pretty good publicity.
The two-wheeler comes into play very early in the video, when Fergie, the leggy front-woman for the group, storms out of the studio and hops on the motorcycle to blow off some steam. She loses control of the bike and ends up dreaming a futuristic dream in which she and the other three guys in the group wear a lot of tinfoil and shoot people with dancing ray-guns to battle the evil giant robot that’s putting the world on permanent pause. It’s amazing how ridiculous that sounds when it’s written in so candid a manner, but the video really is extremely hip, thanks in large part to the vehicles that BMW provided.
About three-quarters of the way through the video, the ActiveHybrid X6 makes its on-screen debut as it races into a crowded street fight scene. This hybrid SUV, packed with a V8 that pushes over 400 horsepower, is the most powerful hybrid automobile on the market right now. It makes sense, then, that the good people at Interscope Records would use it as the vehicle of choice in this scene. In looking for a used BMW X6, San Carlos has tons of golden oldies, but if you want to be one with the dancing robots and the Black Eyed Peas, you’ve got to jump on the future. And if this video is any indication, the future has a lot to do with BMW.
